Organized by the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) of the University of Macau (UM), led by Prof. Elaine Leong, the head of CIE, a 3-day entrepreneurial tour named “Dare to Dream” departed to Shenzhen and Hong Kong on 29th November.
On the first day, the group with a total of 20 participants, visited Huawei Kunpeng Research Center, Shenzhen Bay Science and Technology Ecological Park, and the Party and Mass Activity Center of Nanshan District, providing the entrepreneurs with insights into the current technological development in the Nanshan District, as well as the surrounding industrial supporting environment and facilities. Subsequently, the group visited two major incubation centers, Tencent WeStart (Shenzhen) and HKUST Shenzhen Research Institute, engaging in in-depth discussions and experience sharing with local entrepreneurs, inspiring the enthusiasm and confidence of both UM staff and students towards entrepreneurship.
On the second day, the group visited BGI Genomics, learning about the history of China’s participation in the Human Genome Project, experiencing genetic testing products firsthand, and acquiring knowledge in related popular science topics, providing them with new insights into the development of the biotechnology industry in our country. In the final destination in Shenzhen, the staff and students visited Longhua District, the Hong Kong and Macau Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, Meituan Big Data Center, Longhua City Lounge, and Longhua District International Cooperation Center.
On the last day of the tour, the staff and students arrived in Hong Kong, where they visited Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport. Hong Kong, as an international metropolis, possesses unique advantages in technology innovation and creative industries. Here, the UM staff and students witnessed the relentless efforts and achievements of many young entrepreneurs in their respective fields.
Wang Ziming, a PhD student and an entrepreneur from the Macau Hap on Aromatherapy Application Research Institute Co. Ltd., a project incubated by CIE, expressed, “Through this entrepreneurial tour, I not only broadened my horizons but also gained a deeper understanding of the development history and potential of entrepreneurial projects in the Greater Bay Area, which has given me a clearer direction for my future entrepreneurial planning.”
